MLD Manual Lymphatic Drainage (advanced)
Aim is to increase reabsorption of accumulated protein-rich fluid and promote relaxation. Appointment duration approx 45 min – 60 min a session.
Reduces filtration rate, prevents re-accumulation of evacuated oedema fluid, breaks down deposits of indurated tissue and improves the efficiency of muscle and joint pumps. Bandaging usually follows MLD treatment.

Performed with compression bandage / garment
Promotes active range of motion, strength, stretching. Exertion and pace is patient specific and will include diaphragmatic breathing.
Skin and nail care
To inform and educate patients in the importance of daily skin care, helping decreasing the risk of skin and nail infections and knowing what to do and when to act in the case of infection.
Measuring and ordering of suitable compression garments will be discussed with you. Referral to the local Lymphoedema service can be arranged with your GP Practice.
Instruction is provided in self bandaging and self MLD techniques with on- going support and follow up visits with your Lymphoedema Therapist as required.
